Family Farm School is Different

The Family Farm School is not limited to agriculture-based studies or community projects. It is only named as such since its origins and principal beneficiaries are from the rural farming communities.
Students go through a secondary school course equivalent to the Department of Education's four (4) year high school program. Aside from the usual high school subjects and diploma obtained from it, the student gets hands-on training in different work techniques; making him more productive, improving his family's quality of life, and contributing to the community's development.
The Family Farm School follows a Pedagogy of Alternation (alternancia, in Spanish) of classroom-periods and real-work-periods whereby the students spend a period of intensive classroom work at the school, and a period in an actual factory, company or on his farm putting into practice what he has learned. Tutors of the Family Farm School are in close contact with the family during the alternating cycle and help both parents and students think and work together on a selected project.

Aside from the basic high school subjects, the students' curriculum includes Technical subjects, Values Education, Basic Management and Accounting, and other courses directed towards the career students intend to pursue. While at school the students go for Study Visits to different institutions, industries and live examples in relation to study themes. A strong tutor-tutee relationship is maintained where classes contain a maximum of forty (40) students, and a ratio of one (1) tutor to seven (7) students, on the average.
Parents also undergo formative training modules so that they are able to participate actively in their child's education. A strong parent association is formed, whom together with the students help to put up livelihood projects that benefit the whole community. In all of this, experts and professionals are frequently organized to give special lectures on topics related to the study themes or community projects.
