Pampamilyang Paaralang Agrikultura, Inc. (PPAI)
Pampamilyang Paaralang Agrikultura, Inc. (PPAI) was established in 1986. It was registered in the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with a registration number: 136850.
In the early eighties, Mr. Fritz R. Gemperle, a Swiss-Filipino industrialist and landowner, was thinking of doing something that would assist people living in the rural areas attain socio-economic and cultural advancement. While traveling through Europe, he met a group of people in Spain who were involved in a unique school system. It was an initiative for rural people to receive an integral and relevant formation appropriate to their situation. Mr. Gemperle saw that this could also be done in the Philippines.
The unique school system was called Escuela Familiar Agraria (EFA). In English, it was translated as Family Farm School (FFS). It was patterned after the French Maison Familiale Rurale (MFR) that originated from a rural farming village in south-western France during the thirties and has grown popular in the French countryside.
Together with Engr. Jose Rivera, an agricultural engineer and a Philippine-born Spaniard, and his other professional and businessmen-friends who shared his aspirations, Mr. Gemperle established PPAI as a vehicle to bring MFR-EFA system to the Philippines. With the assistance from the Spanish EFA, the first PPAI-FFS, Dagatan FFS, begun operation in 1988. It was inaugurated on August 8, 1988 in the presence of then-President Corazon C. Aquino.
PPAI is currently chaired by Dr. Walter W. Brown, a geologist and businessman.
